The game is really easy to play once you get your head around the basic concepts.
The aim of the game
The aim is to score as many points as possible. You score points by making accurate predictions of the winner and margin of victory in each game of the tournament.
Prediction model
In SportGuru England in SA Tour you must predict the winner (or draw) of each game of the England in SA Tour, as well as the margin of victory. The margin must be predicted in both runs and wickets, because we'll only know from the toss and the way the game plays out how the victory will be recorded. For example: South Africa to beat Scotland by 22 runs OR 4 wickets.
A prediction is known as a
pick. You can make picks for any game in the tournament on the
make picks page, but it's generally best to go week by week as the form of each team becomes clear.
Tied games: Super over finishes
This tournament uses the super over mechanism to break a tie if the two teams score the same number of runs. In SportGuru, you are able to choose a super over finish as an alternative to a runs/wickets margin. The choice of a super over effectively replaces the runs/wickets margin.
- If you choose Team A to win by a super over and this is the actual result, you will score a Win Point, a Bonus Point in your pool and a Margin Point (valued at 0.7pts)
- If you choose Team A to win by a super over and Team A wins, but in regular play rather than a super over, you will score a Win Point only
- If you choose Team A to win in regular play and they win, but in a super over rather than in regular play, your runs margin prediction may entitle you to runs Margin Points if you were within the margin ranges outlined above (score is effectively Team A by 0 runs)
No results: cricket is affected by rain, and it is possible for a game to end without a result if it cannot be played or if insufficient overs are played. The teams each take home 1 log point in this instance. In SportGuru, no result games will become null and void, and will not be counted for scoring. SportGuru is about predicting sport, not weather!
Scoring system
The
scoring system is carefully designed and finely tuned to reward accuracy and create the possibility for playing with different strategies. It's worth understanding before you make your picks.
Pools
The game is played in pools of several players. You can
set up your own pool and
invite your mates to join you. Alternatively, you might be invited to join a pool. You can play in up to 3 pools. Manage what pools you are in on the
my pools page. If you aren't invited to a private pool and don't want to set up your own pool, you'll play in a randomly-assigned public pool.
The global leaderboard
As well as competing as a big fish in your little pool, you'll also be playing as a tadpole on the
global leaderboard, which includes every player of the game. The best players at the end of the tournament will be eligible for
prizes, as will the player who makes the best aggregate predictions each week.
Email reminders
We will send you a reminder to make your picks by email around 48 hours before the start of each round. This is a courtesy, and we won't be held responsible for you not making picks because you did not receive the email (one never knows what will happen with spam filters etc.)
